What is a wiki? A wiki is a website that anyone can edit! The great thing about a wiki is that multiple people can collaborate on the same site, using their strengths to help each other out. Wiki's however can be tricky; with multiple people editting a site contributions have to be monitored. We are using wikispaces for our school wiki in honor of National Nutrition Month.

Mrs. Geigner monitors the wiki site for updates (changes, additions, and deletes) as students add, upload, and edit to the wiki on a variety of nutrition topics. The wiki will stay active for editing until the end of the Hammitt Health Wiki project (the end of March) at which point editors will be locked out of the wiki (the wiki will still remain active for viewing).

Students are also working on designing fitness routines with Ms. Lenzi which will be added to the wiki site. Our goal is to see many students and teachers contribute to the Hammitt Health wiki site!

This week high school students are working on the PowerPoints for the career fair. Here are some helpful hints to remember to keep your PowerPoint PROFESSIONAL.
  • Limit your fonts to 1 or 2 fonts.
  • Keep fonts appropriate (a child-like font would be fine for a daycare but not a mechanic).
  • Have an instructor proof-read your presentation; make necessary corrections.
  • Pictures as backgrounds to the slide can be nice, but are often overused and make the words hard to read. If you must use a picture as a background consider fading the picture or coloring the background of the text.
  • Sound can be helpful but should make sense and be choosen in the appropriate spot.
  • Keep colors consistent through out the entire presentation. It may be a good idea to choose colors that represent the business you visited.
