I love to find new avatar makers and this morning I stumbled upon one that lets you make yourself into an M&M character. Choose the color of your shell, hair, feet, and gloves, then add accessories.

I turned myself into the beautiful confection at left. Yes, I'm wearing a tiara...but hey..if I can be an M&M then I can be a princess too!

What is a wiki? A wiki is a website that anyone can edit! The great thing about a wiki is that multiple people can collaborate on the same site, using their strengths to help each other out. Wiki's however can be tricky; with multiple people editting a site contributions have to be monitored. We are using wikispaces for our school wiki in honor of National Nutrition Month.

Mrs. Geigner monitors the wiki site for updates (changes, additions, and deletes) as students add, upload, and edit to the wiki on a variety of nutrition topics. The wiki will stay active for editing until the end of the Hammitt Health Wiki project (the end of March) at which point editors will be locked out of the wiki (the wiki will still remain active for viewing).

Students are also working on designing fitness routines with Ms. Lenzi which will be added to the wiki site. Our goal is to see many students and teachers contribute to the Hammitt Health wiki site!

Where was Mrs. Geigner on Thursday and Friday? Playing at ICE of course! ICE stands for Illinois Computing Educators, and last week they held their annual education technology conference in St. Charles, Illinois. Mrs. Doran and I attended the conference to learn how other schools use technology with their students and to discuss some great new ways we could use technology here.
The conference portion we attended lasted two days, and I presented two sessions while I was there. In one session I talked about things we did in our technology class, like our "Green Ideas Customer Newsletter" project we did. Other schools were very excited to hear about our awesome students and what they are achieving in technology class!

Thanks to Ms. Doran for recommending the games below. I've added them to the games page!

On the classroom home page you will now find a link for Games. Check it out!

It's that time of year again! The 2012 Doodle for Google contest has been announced! This year's theme is "If I could travel in time, I'd visit......"

Two Ways to Enter
First, every student at HJSHS will need to complete at least 1 doodle for a technology grade. Doodle entries are due Friday, February 10, 2012 to Mrs. Geigner. I will scan your doodle. You will receive an email of your scanned doodle to put in your electronic portfolio and I will put them on the class website. The entire school will vote on the best doodle from our school on Wednesday, February 15th. The winner and two runner-ups will receive prizes (to be announced). Students may enter multiple entries!
Next, any student who wishes to send their entry to the Doodle 4 Google national competion may do so! Choose 1 entry that you did to submit. You must have an entry form completed by your parent/guardian attached to your doodle.

If you have additional questions please see me or comment below! Good luck and be creative!

You can view last year's doodles here: http://www.google.com/doodle4google/winners_state.html
